Summer Bug Problems: Quick and Easy Insect Control Tips

Summer is the height of pest season. You have probably seen it all: ants, spiders, roaches, crickets, fleas and even rodents are common during this time. What can you do to help cut back on the types of pests that invade your home? The following quick tips can help you with insect control during the warm months of summer.

Focus on the Exterior

Spend a day getting the exterior of your home in order. Eliminate all sources of standing water, as they will attract unwanted pests. Cut back trees and bushes so that they are not close to the living quarters. Finally, do a scan of your home and seal up any holes or cracks that you see. Or Call Gecko Pest Control, as Insects do not need much space to find their way inside, but any gaps that you can fill will help the situation.

Keep it Clean

Some of the nicest, most orderly homes have pest problems. That said, insects are attracted to food, so if the interior of your home is not clean, you are more likely to have a problem. Wipe down your counters each evening before bed. Load the dishwasher rather than leaving anything in the sink. Sweep the floors at least once per week and more often if you have young children. While taking these steps does not guarantee that insects will stay out of your space, they certainly help.

Get Rid of Trash

Both your interior and exterior trash receptacles should have tight fitting lids to discourage insects from entering them. Take your interior trash out often; depending on how much waste you generate, this will vary according to each family, but it is a good idea to do so before bed as long as the can is full.

Keep Food in Sealed Containers

Insects can find their way into just about any part of the home. Make sure you put opened food in sealed containers so that there is no way that the pests can infiltrate the packaging.

With a little bit of work, you can cut back on the number of insects you see in your home. Sometimes, despite your best efforts, you may continue to have a problem. If you are not sure what to do, consider contacting a pest professional for advice or assistance. They can help you determine your next steps in your quest for a pest-free home.
